The project aims to develop an innovative extension of the methodology of Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) as a means of promoting access for disadvantaged adults into the formal education system. It will develop portfolio methods, which are tuned specifically to record the learning gained by disadvantaged adults form their life experience, using such techniques as audio, video and story-telling. Training programmes will be developed for adults in the completion of these portfolios and for community workers and education staff in the mentoring of this process. A mentoring pack to support these programmes will be developed.
The partner network representing a powerful combination of education / training and community organisations will disseminate these novel methodologies into the community / voluntary sectors and will champion them within the formal education / training sector as an appropriate access / admissions mechanism. A range of promotional materials will be produced and the project web site will contribute significantly to the development and dissemination of project outputs.

The aim of the project is to develop courses and course materials (CD-rom) for adults who are disabled in order to integrate them in their local society and perhaps make it possible for them to find a job. The project will develop individual learning strategies for these adults and materials adapted to their individual needs. The project intends to work together with voluntary organisations in the three countries, such as the Red Cross, Sports Clubs, Lions. There is also an intention to develop guidelines for decision-makers concerning lifelong learning for adults with special needs.
The CD-rom will first be produced in Norwegian, Danish and Italian just as the manuals for teachers.
The project is planned to last for three years.
Over a two year period the project's aim, is to develop a better understanding of how adult education provision can best be shaped to benefit adults who experience mental health problems. Project activities will be varied and will concentrate on elaborating learning strategies for improving the quality of life of adults who have been traditionally excluded from the educational area. The focus will be on producing multi media based learning and advocacy skills for those who experience mental health problems, educational programmes for those who care for them and training modules for adult tutors. The project is set in a partnership of 4 bodies working in this field from UK, DK, IE and RO.
The project is based on the social problem reflected in investigations and scientific research: ''The majority of mentally disabled are left out when it comes to degree of knowledge and education''. In combination with disabilities and other people's prejudices this makes a normal life difficult or impossible, e.g. in entering the labour market.
The objective is based on a need that the handicap organisations have called attention to, namely to train people with own disabilities in leadership. The project points to the creating of new ways to recruit and a pedagogical educational method / generator of initiative, combined with ICT's possibilities and actual opportunities of work practise.
The project is permeated by a conscious strategy, increasing the understanding of transnational belonging and mutual dependence, for instance through an integrated base of training and development. A virtual network where all actors are active through an individual platform. The web site will secure a high degree of users and promote the use of multiple languages. The transnational teamwork generates understanding for own and other people's needs. The identity is strengthened and one can recapture one's life.
